BOSS (BUSINESS OF SPORTS SUMMIT) AND SMAANZ
BOSS is globally recognised as the largest and most significant meeting for the sports industry in the region, and each year SMAANZ gives away two free tickets to the event for lucky members!
Attendees this year heard the latest thinking on what the market conditions will be for sport in 2017, they explored new and upcoming consumer trends, talked sponsorship strategies and global events and heard from leaders in the industry.
SMAANZ member Ross Booth was a lucky recipient of one of the free tickets, and it looks like he had a great time! There was an array of amazing speakers at the event, here are some of the highlights from the day.
The #GC2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Chair Peter Beattie spoke about the legacy aims for the Gold Coast and longevity of the Commonwealth Games with an interesting point made about equality of medals for the games, being that the 2018 Games will be the first major multi-sport event that will have an equal number of medals for both men and women.
Karen Rodgers; Facebook’s Head of Partnerships made an important recommendation to Sports organisations around their social media, saying that ‘interacting with audiences and connections are the most important takeaways’ to developing a solid social community.
Another great topic of discussion from the event came from Tony Shepherd – Chair of the GWS Giants on the issue of family and diversity not only being points of difference but also their sales pitch. Along with ‘good football department, a good CEO and good recruitment of older players’ and commented that the emergence of the AFLW meant that the “AFL finally realised that half the population was female”
