SMAANZ 2024 Update & Draft Program

The Deakin Sport Management group is excited to welcome you to Deakin’s Geelong Waterfront campus for this year's SMAANZ conference. Please be aware our early bird registrations close this coming Monday, September 30th – so get in quick!

The 2024 draft program is now available – we’ve even packaged our highlights in threes!:

  • A three-day conference model with over 100 academic presentations and a range of awards including best paper, three-minute thesis, industry engagement award, and for the first time our inaugural class of SMAANZ research fellows.
  • Three panels celebrating 30 years of sport management education, research, and leadership in Australia and New Zealand, led by none other than Prof. Pamm Phillips, Prof. Alison Doherty, and Prof. Russell Hoye respectively. 
  • Three workshops on cutting edge topics in sport management: 1) anti-racism (led by Prof. Ramon Spaaij and colleagues), 2) technology (led by Prof. Adam Karg and Dr. Carleigh Yeomans), and 3) integrity (led by Prof. Annick Willem and colleagues) 
  • Three workshops on the global teaching and learning landscape: 1) lessons from Ohio University on adopting business school best practices in sport management (led by A/Prof Jim Strode and colleagues); 2) integrating theory and practice in sport management education (led by Prof. Marlene Dixon and colleagues); and, 3) designing curriculums for future sport managers (led by Dr. Igor Perechuda and colleagues). 
  • Three opportunities to develop professionally: 1) build your networks at SMAANZ’s global meet and greet session (led by Dr. Michael Naraine and colleagues), 2) learn the tips and tricks of publishing in SMR (led by SMR editor Prof. Pamm Phillips and colleagues), and 3) shape the future of sport management conference design (led by A/Prof Geoff Dickson), and finally, 
  • Three opportunities to socialise with the SMAANZ community and see the best that Victoria’s surf coast has to offer with 1) a learn to surf session at the home of surfing - Torquay, 2) play some golf at 13th Beach one of Australia’s Top 100 golf courses, or 3) drive along the picturesque Great Ocean Road.
