HDR Day Writing 'In-Treat'
This year’s HDR Day will feature a unique writing “in-treat,” where participants will work closely with leading academics to improve their writing skills. Building on the insights from Jordan and Tracy’s Journal Introduction Writing Workshop – Part 1, HDRs will receive direct feedback on a working paper introduction, engage in writing sessions, and attend a panel on post-PhD opportunities.
HDR Day Schedule:
9 am-10 am: Writing Help with Senior Scholars (Review of submitted introductions)
10 am-12 pm: Presentations, Writing Time, and Discussions
12pm-1 pm: Lunch
1pm-2 pm: Writing Help with Senior Scholars
2pm-4 pm: Writing Time and Early Career Researcher Panel
- 4 pm: Social Event (Student-organised at own cost)
How the Writing 'In-Treat' Works:
All HDR participants are required to submit a working draft of a paper introduction (1–2 pages, double-spaced) along with a working title and target journal by Thursday, 31st October. Drafts will be grouped and assigned to senior scholars for detailed feedback. Each group will consist of 3 HDRs and 1 senior scholar with editorial experience in Sport Management Review.
HDRs at any stage of their research journey are encouraged to participate, whether you have a full draft or are just beginning to write. This is an opportunity to refine your writing and prepare for future journal submissions.
Next Steps:
Review the Journal Introduction Writing Workshop – Part 1.
Develop a 1-2 page introduction, including your research question/aim, argument, and relevant details.
- Submit your draft to Jordan Bakhsh (j.bakhsh@deakin.edu.au) by 31st October, using the subject line: SMAANZ_FIRST INITIAL AND SURNAME_INTRODUCTION (e.g., SMAANZ_JBakhsh_Introduction).
- Prepare personal reflections on your introduction and review your group members' drafts ahead of HDR Day.
We look forward to seeing you in December. Don’t forget to register early to secure your student conference ticket here.
